There’s nothing wrong with stocking great beer from far and wide, which is why we still do it! But there is something special about brewing our own beer, just metres from the bar.
“We get to share something truly local with everyone who walks through our doors.”
Brewing on-site means we know exactly what’s going into every pint. We get to experiment, tweak, taste, and perfect. No guesswork. No shipping delays. No stale pints from a warehouse miles away, brewed by people we’ve never met. Just ridiculously fresh beer, poured metres from where it was made… possibly even by Paul, our head brewer.
It also means fewer beer miles. Our beers don’t clock up hundreds of miles in a lorry; they go from tank to tap, straight to your glass. Better for the planet, and better tasting too. So technically… Drinking Fonthill beer is an act of environmental good. You’re welcome!
And, perhaps slightly selfishly? We just love it. We love making our own, local beer! Not only are we able to put our stamp on what we serve and try out new ideas, but we get to share something truly local with everyone who walks through our doors.
There’s a buzz that comes with that, and once you’ve felt it, you just want more of it.
So, what are we pouring right now? Come and meet the Fonthill line-up…
The Fonthill Pour-Folio

Good Morning, Captain
Session Pale Ale | 3.9% ABV
Light, bright, and brewed for long afternoons. Good Morning Captain is one of our most popular beers for a reason. It’s easygoing, but full of flavour. Expect a citrusy, hoppy flavour profile with just enough bitterness to keep things interesting.
Fonthill Lager
Bavarian-Style Lager | 4.0% ABV
Lager, but not as you know it. Brewed in the classic German style, our Fonthill Lager is crisp, clean and dangerously refreshing. Subtle malt sweetness and floral hops to keep things balanced.
Band Meeting
New England IPA | 4.8% ABV
Hazy, juicy, and citrusy. Band Meeting is our love letter to those big cloudy East Coast IPAs, minus the massive ABV. Look out for orange and grapefruit notes, with a touch of pineapple. Practically one of your five-a-day!
Inner City Pressure
New Zealand Pale Ale | 5.2% ABV
Hopped then dry-hopped with Southern Cross hops from New Zealand for citrus peel, pine, and subtle floral notes. Super refreshing.
Palimpsest
British-Style Golden IPA | 5.4% ABV
Palimpsest is a layered, complex golden IPA that showcases a mix of five different British and American hops. It’s herbal and slightly spicy, with a dry, resinous finish. Flavour-forward without being heavy.
Where’s Me Jumper
Porter | 4.7% ABV
Dark, comforting, and just the right amount of quirky, kind of like the name! Our session porter is made with a simple hopping schedule to allow those rich chocolate and crystal malts to come through. Smooth and warming, and perfect for crisp winter evenings!
Best Bitter
Traditional Bitter | 4.1% ABV
Proper British bitter. Brewed with local Kentish hops and a touch of aromatic malt, this one’s all about balance. Earthy, nutty, and gently bitter. It’s a classic for a reason.
Creedence
American Pale Ale | 4.6% ABV
Made with Crystal and Caragold malts for that rich amber hue and a touch of sweetness, this APA brings citrus zest and pine from the hops, balanced with a biscuity backbone. Full bodied flavour, bold without being brash.
Pedal Steel
Tropical Session IPA | 4.5% ABV
Fruity, zesty, juicy, and seriously drinkable. Think passionfruit, mango, and citrus hops, Pedal Steel really is our juiciest brew. If you like Tiny Rebel’s Tropical IPA, give this a go. We’ve been told it’s even better.
Flame On!
Mango Fruited IPA | 5.8% ABV
Possibly our most playful brew, Flame On! packs mango sweetness up front with a dry hoppy finish to round things up nicely. Fruited IPAs can be a bit full-on, but we’ve kept this one clean and drinkable.
Where to Try Fonthill Beers
With everything brewed on-site at The George, our beer has one of the lowest carbon footprints you’ll find locally. No cross-country lorry hauls and no excess packaging. Just straight from our tanks to your glass, using local ingredients where possible.
Fancy a pint? You’ll find our beers pouring fresh across the Fonthill Collective, at The George (our home), our sister pubs: The Sussex Arms (just off The Pantiles) and The Ragged Trousers (44, The Pantiles), and at The Forum.
Pop in, have a pint, and ask what’s new!
“Alongside our core range, we like to keep things interesting by brewing the occasional guest beer, like They Stretch for Milds, our recent foray into traditional milds, and Knut, our first green hop beer. Needless to say, we were very pleased when Knut won Green Hop Beer of the Festival and took second place overall at Spa Valley Railway’s annual beer festival!

We are consistently delighted and humbled by the feedback we get — both locally and from further afield. As a relatively small, young brewery, it’s incredibly rewarding to be recognised alongside bigger and more established names. With a milestone number of brews on the horizon, we’re looking forward to some new and exciting projects.”
What’s Brewing Next?
We asked Paul, our head brewer, if there was anything exciting bubbling away behind the scenes:
“We had a very nice shiny bit of kit delivered last week which is going to give us some great opportunities to have a play with a few ideas we’ve had on the back burner for a while. Can’t really say more than that at the moment, but watch this space!”
